Ogan Ilir, KOTABARI.COM – The Traffic Unit of the Ogan Ilir District Police has revealed the findings of the on-site investigation into the accident that claimed the lives of two students from Sriwijaya University (Unsri) on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. AKP Nofrizal Dwiyanto, the Head of the Traffic Unit of Ogan Ilir District Police, explained during a press conference that the two students, riding a motorcycle, collided with a truck from behind.
“The findings from the on-site investigation indicate that the two victims collided with the vehicle. It was not a case of being rear-ended,” clarified Nofrizal Dwiyanto.
The victims, identified as Dimas (21 years old) and Azinuddin (21 years old), were riding a Yamaha Vixion motorcycle with license plate BG 4216 ZQ and were en route from Palembang to Indralaya. However, the tragic incident occurred at kilometer 20 on the Palembang-Indralaya road, where the motorcycle collided with a four-wheeled vehicle from behind.
The police have urged the driver of the truck involved in the accident to surrender to the Ogan Ilir District Police. As of now, the whereabouts of the truck remain unknown.
The repercussions of this accident are deeply saddening. Both victims, known as Dimas and Azinuddin, were students of Sriwijaya University (Unsri). They sustained severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Both victims hailed from Lorong Kedukan, 5 Ulu Village, Seberang Ulu (SU) I Sub-District, Palembang.
The profound grief experienced by those close to the victims was captured in a video shared on the Instagram account @grebek_paltv. The footage depicted several friends of the victims exhibiting hysterical emotions at the Palembang BARI Hospital. In the recording, one individual dressed in brown was seen hysterically searching for the Unsri students’ bodies, while being consoled by fellow companions who were trying to calm him down.
The intense sorrow was also evident in the tearful reactions of friends who struggled to contain their emotions. One man was even embraced by a friend as he couldn’t hold back his tears over the loss of his friend.
This tragic incident has left a profound void within the families, friends, and the Sriwijaya University community. All parties hope that such accidents will not recur in the future, serving as a reminder of the paramount importance of traffic safety for all road users.
