Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – Reza Ghasarma, a lecturer at Sriwijaya University (Unsri), has been found guilty in a case of harassment against a student through text messages. Despite being sentenced, Reza still holds his position as a lecturer and maintains his status as a Civil Servant (PNS), eliciting disappointment from the victim and the public.
One of the victims, identified by the initials DK, expressed her disappointment with the university’s decision not to dismiss Reza. DK stated that Reza should have been fired since the beginning of the case.
“Until now, there has been no decision from the university regarding the dismissal of the lecturer. He should have been dismissed since then,” said DK in her confirmation to Kotabari.com on Wednesday (8/5/2024).
DK also conveyed the injustice in handling this case, considering that some lecturers in other departments involved in similar cases have been dismissed. DK also revealed that there were several other female students who were also victims of Reza’s inappropriate behavior.
“There are many victims, there were 5 reports yesterday. Some were even directly harassed by him,” DK revealed.
DK emphasized that the university should take a firmer stance in handling this case and ensure that lecturers involved in inappropriate behavior like Reza are not retained.
“In my opinion, the university’s response is very disappointing. Educators should educate students, but this instead sets a bad example. Why is a lecturer like him being retained?” she questioned.
DK also hopes that Sriwijaya University (Unsri) will handle this case seriously and ensure that no other female students will experience the same fate in the future.
“I hope he gets fired. We don’t want to see any more victims in the future,” DK concluded.
As of the release of this news, Sriwijaya University has not provided an official response regarding the request to dismiss Reza Ghasarma from his position as a lecturer. The public awaits concrete steps from the authorities in handling this case so that justice can be served and better protection can be provided for female students.
