Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – The inundation of streets, reaching into the compounds of homes, has become a serious concern for residents in Palembang, not only for those residing along the banks of the Musi River but also in the central residential areas of Palembang.
Although this disruption has hampered daily activities, the prolonged flooding, believed to originate from the Musi River, is proving to be a persistent challenge for many residents. One severely affected area is the vicinity of Macan Lindungan Street in Bukit Baru Subdistrict, IB 1 Palembang, where rising waters are engulfing several homes.
Local residents are putting in considerable effort to stem the flow of water into their homes, resorting to creative solutions such as adding stones with cement in front of the doors, both at the front and back of their houses. Despite elevating their homes, the floodwaters persistently inundate yards and access roads to the houses, compelling them to construct makeshift wooden bridges to enter their homes, especially during high tide in the evenings.
Hafizin, a local resident affected by the flooding, expressed, “This situation has been going on for nearly two weeks. Many residents are still holding out in their homes, even though they have to prop up furniture, using both wood and bricks.”
The situation is further exacerbated by the presence of swamps in the vicinity, rendering drainage or ditches invisible on the surface. The water level reaching the surface of the bridge also requires residents to exercise extra caution when traversing.
Residents impacted by the situation hope for a prompt and effective solution from the government. They appeal for swift actions to address the protracted issue of flooding. Additionally, residents wish for the government’s attention to the swampy conditions surrounding the area to ensure proper drainage.
