EMPAT LAWANG, KOTABARI.COM – The clash between two youths in Padang Tepong Village, Ulu Musi District, Empat Lawang Regency, resulted in a fatal outcome. Dodi (18), a young man from Muara Sindang Village, Pasemah Air Keruh (Paiker) Subdistrict, met a gruesome death after being stabbed in the chest by Deni (26) during a dangerous duel. The incident occurred on Monday (July 25, 2023) just before dusk.
According to information from Ulu Musi District Police Chief, Inspector Hariyono, the bloody incident began when both of them encountered each other at a wedding party in Muara Kalangan Village, Ulu Musi Subdistrict, on the same day. Little did anyone know that Dodi and Deni had a longstanding grudge that had not been resolved.
While at the party, they engaged in a heated argument and challenged each other to meet at the Ponton Bridge in Padang Tepong Village. Without hesitation, they agreed to the meeting at the specified location, armed with sharp weapons.
Shortly after the agreement, Dodi and Deni, accompanied by their respective friends, headed to the Ponton Bridge. Upon arrival, a fierce altercation ensued, and they engaged in a dangerous duel using their sharp weapons.
Tragically, Dodi received a fatal stab wound to his upper left shoulder from Deni’s attack with a herder knife. Despite receiving medical attention at the Padang Tepong Community Health Center, his life could not be saved.
However, Deni also suffered injuries, as he was stabbed in the left thigh, causing a serious wound. After attacking Dodi, the perpetrator panicked and jumped from the Ponton Bridge into the Musi River to escape.
Medical teams and locals rushed to help Dodi, but the young man had already succumbed to his injuries. Inspector Hariyono stated that Deni was successfully apprehended by the police and residents in a plantation in Tanjung Agung Village, Ulu Musi Subdistrict, at around 7:30 PM.
Deni was subsequently taken to the Empat Lawang Police Headquarters for further legal proceedings. This tragedy has left a deep sorrow for the families of both the victim and the perpetrator, as well as the local community who had to witness the bloody duel ending in such a tragic manner. May this incident serve as a lesson for us all to resolve differences peacefully and avoid engaging in dangerous actions that claim lives.
