Jakarta, KOTABARI.COM – The Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP) has announced that the Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Hasyim Asy’ari, has been found guilty of coercing a member of the Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) in the Netherlands into sexual intercourse. This incident occurred in the Netherlands and was revealed during an ethics ruling session at the DKPP building in Jakarta on Wednesday (3/7/2024).
According to DKPP, the incident took place on October 3, 2023, during a technical guidance event held by DKPP in The Hague. DKPP member Dewi Pitalolo, while reading the ruling considerations, disclosed that Hasyim attended the event and stayed at the Van Der Valk Hotel in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
“During the event, the accused was present on October 3, 2023, and stayed at the Van Der Valk Hotel in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In the examination hearing, the complainant stated that on the night of October 3, 2023, the accused contacted the complainant to come to his hotel room. The complainant then came to the accused’s hotel room and conversed in the living room. During the conversation, the accused seduced and persuaded the complainant to engage in sexual intercourse. Initially, the complainant continuously refused, but the accused kept forcing,” said Dewi Pitalolo.
Dewi added, “However, the accused kept coercing the complainant into sexual intercourse. Eventually, the intercourse occurred.”
Following the incident, the victim experienced physical health issues on October 18, 2023, and underwent medical examination. In the examination hearing, the victim stated that a week after the incident, they experienced health symptoms requiring a general practitioner’s examination. The doctor recommended a follow-up examination involving both the victim and the accused.
“On October 31, 2023, the complainant contacted the accused via WhatsApp, requesting the accused to undergo a health examination as recommended by the doctor. The accused responded, ‘yes, dear.’ Subsequently, the accused sent his examination results with the caption ‘may we always stay healthy’,” Dewi stated.
DKPP found this evidence sufficient to declare that sexual intercourse occurred between the complainant and the accused on October 3, 2023. Consequently, DKPP imposed a permanent dismissal sanction on Hasyim Asy’ari and requested the President of the Republic of Indonesia to implement this decision within seven days of its announcement.
This case has drawn public attention and adds to the growing list of ethical violations among election organizers. This decision is expected to serve as a warning to all parties to maintain integrity and ethics in fulfilling state duties.
