Palembang, KOTABARI.COM – On Friday night, March 29, 2024, a shocking tragedy unfolded at Pasar Induk, Jakabaring, Palembang City. The body of an individual was discovered submerged in a drainage behind a shop at Pasar Cengho. The deceased, believed to be a homeless person known as Mr X, was often seen sleeping in front of the shop.
The incident came to light when Alatas (45), a security officer at the market, conducted his routine patrol around the shop area. Alatas stumbled upon Mr X’s lifeless body in the drainage. “During my rounds, I found the victim lifeless in the drainage,” Alatas stated.
As no identification documents were found on the deceased, Mr X’s identity remains unknown. Alatas promptly reported the discovery to the police, who arrived to investigate the scene.
AKBP Haris Dinzah, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, confirmed the discovery through Iptu Agus Wijaya, the Crime Scene Investigator at Palembang Metropolitan Police. “We have evacuated the body suspecting illness,” Agus stated. Furthermore, Agus mentioned that Mr X was believed to have suffered from mental health issues. “According to witnesses at the scene, the victim often consumed garbage and drank from the drain, and for the past week, he had been unwell and immobile,” he added.
This tragic incident highlights social welfare and mental health issues within the community. Authorities are urged to pay closer attention to these issues to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Hopefully, Mr X finds peace and receives appropriate care on the other side.
