Sidoarjo, KOTABARI.COM – Family and friends were shocked by the tragic news of the death of a veterinary medicine student, CA (21), who was found dead inside a car at the Royal Bisnis Tambak Oso Apartment in Sidoarjo. CA was described as a diligent and obedient student who never caused any trouble for her family.

The shocking news was first conveyed to CA’s father, Gunawan, on a fateful morning when he received a phone call that shook him to his core. “I was informed at 9 in the morning. I had no inkling of what was to come, but I had a restless night and only managed to sleep at 7 in the morning,” he revealed with a bewildered and sorrowful expression.

Gunawan and his wife were deeply distraught and unable to hold back tears. CA was a beloved daughter to both of them, and they had no inkling of the reasons behind this tragic loss.

The last time the family saw CA was on Monday (November 30, 2023), as she had returned to Kediri for a coasistensi program at a local animal slaughterhouse in Kelurahan Pojok, Kediri. On Tuesday (November 31, 2023) morning, she returned to Surabaya. Furthermore, on Wednesday (November 1, 2023) morning, she returned to Kediri to pay her respects at the funeral of a fellow Unair student who had passed away in Kelurahan Banjaran, Kediri.

Gunawan explained that his daughter was a reserved individual, and they were unaware of the underlying issues that may have led to her tragic demise. “My wife and I love her very much,” he said, mentioning that his daughter left behind a letter to both of her parents.

The letter, written in English, expressed CA’s disappointment with the world. Gunawan also mentioned that his daughter had used helium gas, though the source of the gas remained unclear. “I still don’t know where she got the helium gas. There is a suspicion that it was purchased online,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the letter addressed to her mother contained an apology for her mother’s care throughout her life. However, the letter did not provide specific reasons for her tragic action. “Perhaps she could no longer bear the suffering in this world. But the nature of her suffering remains unknown to us,” he expressed.

The two-page suicide note did not contain any explanation for her actions. “I even brought in a translator, and there was nothing related to romantic relationships. That’s why we’re puzzled,” he added.

Gunawan admitted that his daughter was a quiet, obedient child who always followed instructions diligently.

As of now, the funeral arrangements have not been determined as the family awaits other relatives. CA’s body will be laid to rest at the Rumah Sinoman Dana Pangrukti in Kediri.

The discovery of CA’s death first came to light when a resident found her sitting in the back seat of a car with the car’s doors and windows closed in the courtyard of the Royal Bisnis Tambak Oso Apartment. Her head was wrapped in plastic and secured with tape around her neck. Authorities also found a pink helium gas tank inside the car with a hose connected to the plastic covering her head.

Although authorities have not yet been able to confirm the cause of CA’s death, whether it was a result of her ending her life or another action, her body has been taken to the hospital for autopsy. “The victim has been taken to the hospital for an autopsy,” said Kompol Tiksnarto Andaru Rahutomo, the Head of Criminal Investigation at the Sidoarjo Regional Police.

Prof. Murni Lamid, the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Universitas Airlangga, expressed profound shock upon hearing the news of her student’s death. CA was actively engaged in a veterinary medicine program and coasistensi. “I was quite surprised and shaken. I have been crying since I heard the news. We are deeply saddened by this,” she said.
