Banyuasin, KOTABARI.COM – A Daihatsu Zebra Espass car with license plate BK 1922 LQ, driven by Johan, was completely burned on the Palembang – Betung East Cross Road, precisely at KM 19, Air Batu Village, Talang Kelapa District, Banyuasin, early Wednesday morning (3/7/2024) around 01:20 AM.

The incident began when the Zebra Espass car was rear-ended by a truck with license plate BE 8015 HU driven by Wiranto. As a result of the collision, the Zebra Espass car was severely damaged and caught fire.

Members of the Banyuasin Police Traffic Unit immediately arrived at the scene and evacuated the car’s driver and passengers. Banyuasin Police Chief AKBP Ferly Rosa Putra, through Traffic Unit Head AKP Bambang W, accompanied by Accident Unit Head Ipda Rio, explained that the incident started when the Hino truck driven by Wiranto came from Pangkalan Balai heading towards Palembang.

“At the scene, due to the short distance to the vehicle in front, the truck driver tried to avoid a collision and returned to his lane. However, he couldn’t avoid hitting the back of the Daihatsu Zebra driven by Johan,” said AKP Bambang W.

After being hit, the Zebra Espass car was damaged, and a suspected electrical short circuit caused the fire. The flames quickly spread throughout the car until it was completely burned. Fortunately, the driver and passengers managed to escape with only minor injuries.

Johan, the Zebra driver, who lives on Lingkar Barat 2 Street, Serai Serumpun Rimbo Alley, Alam Barajo District, Jambi City, sustained minor injuries to his left hand and has received treatment at Sukajadi Regional Hospital. Meanwhile, the truck driver, Wiranto, from Central Lampung, was unharmed.

From the scene investigation and examination, the accident occurred because the Hino truck driver with license plate BE 8015 HU did not maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, leading to the collision.

“Currently, both the truck and Zebra Espass drivers are attempting to resolve the incident amicably. Meanwhile, both vehicles have been secured by the police,” concluded AKP Bambang W.
