Musi Banyuasin, KOTABARI.COM – Mulyadi (41), a resident of Bangun Sari Village, Babat Toman Subdistrict, was apprehended by members of the Babat Toman Police Station at his home on Friday (July 14, 2023). The arrest was led directly by the Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim) Chief Inspector Lekat Hariyanto SH, as Mulyadi was deemed to be causing distress and discomfort to the community in his residential area due to frequent drug use.

Mulyadi was apprehended shortly after consuming the drug known as shabu. During the search at his residence, the police discovered drug paraphernalia, including a glass pipe used for smoking shabu, which still contained traces of narcotics. The Chief of the Muba Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner (Akbp) Siswandi Sik.SH.MH., confirmed the arrest through the Babat Toman Subdistrict Police Chief, Inspector Vico Fariul Fajar STrk.

“The suspect is indeed suspected of being a drug user rather than a dealer. However, due to the disturbances caused by his frequent drug use in the residential area, which was reported to us, we immediately followed up on the information,” said Inspector Vico when questioned by the media on Sunday (July 16, 2023).

The Subdistrict Police Chief explained that during the search at the suspect’s house, a shabu smoking apparatus was found, and there were still traces of narcotics adhering to the glass pipe. The suspect admitted that he had recently used the apparatus to smoke shabu, which he had purchased from a dealer in Babat Toman for Rp. 100,000.

“We will further investigate this case to prevent Babat Toman from becoming a fertile ground for drug trafficking. Above all, we must ensure that the residents and the younger generation of Muba Babat Toman are not harmed by these illicit substances. We will take strict measures. As for the suspect Mulyadi, we will charge him under Article 112 Paragraph (1) or Article 127 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a minimum prison sentence of 4 years and a maximum of 20 years,” emphasized Inspector Vico.
